Unit 3 - Motivation, Emotion and Learning

An emotion is characterized by feelings of pleasantness or unpleasantness (cognitive) accompanied by physiologic modifications (physiological), that lead to behavioral reactions (expressive). Emotions film three components: Cognitive, physiologic and Expressive components. Cognitive component argon the conscious hear of emotions and the way they are labeled. Six primary emotions are: Anger, Disgust, vexation, Happiness, sadness and Surprise.

Other emotions are: Contempt, Guilt, Interest, and Shame. According the Plutchik, there are eight opposite emotion with polar opposites, in which if gradation in effectiveness is applied can lead to different feelings. These opposite emotions are:

        Joy-sadness

        Acceptance-disgust

        Fear-anger

        Surprise-anticipation.
