True Beauty

“There’s a horror movie castigate there on my TV, shocking me ripe outta my b rain.” These are the storied lyrics of a song which have completely changed the way I view the media; a song which I’m certainly many of you in front of me are familiar with - “ repugnance Movie” by Skyhooks. The 1975 hit suggests that the world has been overrun by chaos and destruction, to the extent where watching nightly TV give-and-take is the equivalent of tuning in to a real life-time horror movie. When I watch the news, abouttimes I find out as though there’s a component of truth behind those lyrics; our screens are constantly covered with footage from the struggle in Afghanistan, the world wide economic crisis, natural disasters, hardness and suffering, giving the impression that the balance between ‘good’ and ‘ fearful’ in the world is being severely tipped in the wrong direction. Society is forever confronted with so many patently ‘ugly’ issues, but if we pause for just a second and look beyond the media sensationalism, there is true beauty to be found. Take for instance, the recent floods which affected thousands of people and destroyed stem across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. These floods were the worst seen in our acres within the last 35 years, breaking the hearts of Australian residents right across the country, as they lost their homes, their businesses and in some severe cases, their loved ones.



However, one thing that the torrential rain failed to break was the beauty buried beneath all of the injury and anguish â€" that beauty being the unwavering strength and the aim of the Australian people. In the weeks following the floods, the people of Australia joined forces to class a single, united entity; an army of sorts to battle the floodwaters and help build what our beloved countrymen and women lost. In addition to this, millions of dollars have been raised by thousands upon thousands of selfless Aussies in an attempt to help our own. The January floods,...
