The setting reflects the entirety of Riders to the Sea. It is set in Ireland when there was no modern technology. Everyone knows in Ireland it rains most of the time so it sets a dreary, gray atmosphere. In that era the manpower would provide the nutriment and money by fishing, hunting, and trading, while the women would do the sewing, cooking, and cleaning.
