Hopelessness in Hope
Charles Darwin solely proposed marriage to his cousin ground on a list of pros and cons and since the pros were greater, he used a method known now as tallying to decide upon what actions he would take. In the beginning of the passage, the protagonist is very fearful of death and gives up trying to live because he is authorized that he is going to die which is shown through the apprehensive tone.   spoken language such as pitchy darkness . . . horror, and thick gloom, and a black sweltering desert of ebony, [and] watery hell (217) convey some on the feelings the main character has about his looming death.
