I did my observations in the data processor laboratoryoratory in Merritt Hall. The archetypical thing I notice as an observer was the separation of computers by brand. As you first walk into the lab, the Dells be in the front, tour in the second are the Macs. It is also very distinguishable that students are in this particular laboratory for many variant reasons: slightly to socialize, some in a hurry to print something false and rush to their attached class, others to work on projects with other multitude members, and some writing papers. While some are patently there to socialize, even this aspect occurs in varying patterns. It was interest to walk around and sort of glance at different computer screens.
I witnessed people writing papers, chatting on AOL, chatting on facebook, people playing games on the internet, while others were scurrying as quickly as they could move to print off a last minute paper and rush on to their next destination. There was widespread use of cell phones, both texting and talking, while I observed. However, I also noticed differences here, as more or less people who were making or receiving calls got up and left the means while chatting away, a few people remained in the lab and appeared to be a distraction to surrounding colleagues as I watched with anticipation as people stopped working and stared at the louder speakers on the phone, as well as giving looks and sighs of disgust.
