Its fascinating to see how people let on their inner strength to live life to the fullest. Life get out never be a smooth line and it for sure will have bumps and turns throughout. In literature, many novels show characters relations with their skirmishs. Two works of literature that shows the idea of overcoming life atomic number 18 The Diving Bell And The Butterfly, a memoir by blue jean Dominique Bauby, and As I Lay Dying, a novel by William Faulkner. These two works of literature show how people take on to cope along life in a collateral manner.
The protagonist of this memoir, The Diving Bell And The Butterfly, is the author himself, Jean-Dominique Bauby. His major conflict is his immobilization, his body. Bauby was the editor for famous fashion magazine, Elle. He loved his job, friends, and family. He had the good life until one day, after having a dreaded stroke while driving with his son, he falls into coma.



He awoke twenty days later realizing his whole body was paralyzed, tho his brain still functioned normally, along with his hearing and his left eye. Doctors explain this as the locked in syndrome. Bauby symbolizes his body as a plunge bell and his mind as a butterfly. His body is permanently paralyzed as if he was stuck under water in a diving bell suit. Yet, his mind flew freely homogeneous a butterfly and was able to write this book with honourable his mind and left eye with the help of his speech healer Sandrine. Sandrine, Baubys speech therapist was the one who created the alphabet chart so that Bauby can actually communicate with others by blinking. She made a chart of alphabets and Bauby would blink his eye when she pointed her finger at a specific letter.
