ABSTRACT Communication technologies have generated a new form of literacy which puts the standard of compose among technology adopters at stake. Short Message Service (SMS) voice communication is one example which dissipates the concern for maintaining a certain aim of standard in written communication. In the present study, 80 e-mails and SMSes from university students were analyzed. To visualize how the adoption of SMS language affects theme among its adopters, analyses were made on the semantic and syntactic aspects of the e-mails. Traces of impact of SMS on the standard of writing among the participants were also examined from several other aspects. The findings suggest that the degree of innocent(predicate) use of SMS language in writing among university students might filter a deplorable state if no eye is unbroken on it.
