The story is about two black brothers bark to understand one another. The older brother, a well-off Harlem algebra teacher, is the unidentified narrator. The young brother is Sonny, a jazz pianist who has notwithstanding been arrested for selling and using heroin. In Sonnys Blues, the events of the story ar often times harsh, but very real. The narrator could not believe the realness of what he was reading in the newsprint about Sonny. It was not to be believed and I kept obese myself that, as I walked from the subway station to the high initiate (Baldwin 2). In the end, Baldwin, allows everything to work out. In Sonnys Blues tragedy and scathe was transformed into beautiful blues music. The music can be viewed as a facilitator for change for both the narrator and Sonny. As the narrator begins to understand the music, he also began to understand his younger brother Sonny. James Baldwin was born in 1924 in Harlem, New York to an unwed mother.
His mother married David Baldwin, a set preacher who never accepted James. The oldest of nine children, Baldwin grew up in extreme poverty. In his teens, he worked as a pentecostal preacher, under the influence of his father. Yet as he grew older, he locomote away from the influence of the church. He found himself an flat tire in the artists district of Greenwich Village, NY and then, in 1948, in piece delinquent to racial injustices and the alienation he felt as a gay black man in the US, he moved to Paris. He returned to the United States in 1957 and became a major part of the civil rights movement. When Sonnys Blues was published in the same year, Baldwin was already known on the literary scene.
