Robert Jensen writes in his essay The High Cost of Manliness that our kitchen-gardening defines the idea of masculinity in a way that it creates authoritative expectations that corroborate to be fulfilled. Jensen talks about the aspects biology and gloss that affect our view of humanity. Jensen says that masculinity is associated with traits such as pursuit control, aggression, and competition. Jensen also talks about the consequences such as thwart and vulnerability that be connected to the fact that work force and women are different, but Jensen later counters that line of reasoning by mentioning that men and women are more alike than they are different. Most importantly men can also be associated with the i take aways of caring and sacrifice. Jensen ends his overall argument by reaching a concrete observation that we see to stop trying to define what men and women have to be based on prediction and we have to strive to dominate the ideal of what being a human is all about.
I agree with Jensen that the conception of men being competitive and vulturous has affected our culture and our understanding of what it is to be a man and furthermore affected the equality between genders.



However, its a little extreme to say that the planet cant survive if the current conception of masculinity endures. First of all, I think the view of masculinity has overlooked the traits of the biological male, and its up to us to revaluate our cultural beliefs so we can deal with the dangers of masculinity. Secondly, I think the choice of how we view masculinity is angiotensin-converting enzyme that we made, and it has eliminated our chance of making connections with certain groups and restricted the range and information in a relationship. Lastly, I would point out that the article does not discuss the world where men are threatened, for its my opinion that men resort to certain behaviors because they dont feel they have any other recourse.
