To this day, Rwanda still inspires people to see and generalize genocide. In Keans paintings, I see the general Dallaire portrayed in a very sad manner. His appear has an expression of disappointment. I feel that this stands for the guilt that he felt for the fact that he could not stop as much cruelty referable to the genocide than he wanted to. He could also be giving an expression of being damaged- he witnessed thousands of murders fall out in the open. I think that Kearns would portray him like this for people to construe all of the personal effects he went through to foster people during the genocide. His guilt is a result of his nobleness and she wants people to find him as a person who went out of their way to service their country. He also has a very stern face in another painting, representing him as a fighter for Rwanda. For the extend one, Dallaire is burying his face in his hands. To me, this could mean his disappointment in himself or covering his eyes as a grit of disgust for the murdering of thousands of people around him.
